Three more performances in 2016!
This Friday, December 2nd we’ll be at the Old Town School of Folk Music on Armitage for Andrew Sa’s Emergent Series. Jess has been on the road for the better part of the year and we’re thrilled to have her back in town and joining us on fiddle and high harmonies for this one! Andrew Sa and His Organic Sound, Alisa Rosenthal, and Gia Margaret will also perform. 909 W Armitage Ave. 8pm. $10. BYOB.
Then, next Saturday, December 10th we’re joining forces with the Wandering Boys and Glass Mountain for a night of bluegrass at the Hungry Brain. 2319 W Belmont Ave. 8pm. $10 in advance / $12 at the door. Poster by Zerobird Studio.
Lastly, we’ll be back at the Charleston Bar on Thursday, December 15th for the final 2016 installment of our monthly residency. 2076 N Hoyne Ave. 8:30-11pm. No cover.
Excited to be sharing the stage with so many great musicians in December. Happy holidays and hope to see you out there!
Lovely new solo album from Jess McIntosh out this week! Stream, purchase a digital download, or pre-order a hard copy of “Long Time Exhaling” through jessmcintosh.com or jessmcintosh.bandcamp.com.
Last week ruled! Thanks to everybody that came out last Friday and helped sell out the kickoff of our Picnics on the Porch series with Stock Cafe at The Hideout. We also had an incredible day at the Sugar Maple Traditional Music Festival in Madison, WI on Saturday. What a treat to get to play music in such magical spots! Sugar Maple highlights included running into friends from Montana that we hadn’t seen in ages and watching The Down Hill Strugglers, Finnders & Youngberg, and Aoife O’Donovan and her rocking trio. Hope to make it back to the festival next year!
We’ll be at The Hideout tomorrow night, 8/12 from 6-7:30pm for week two of our August residency. The show happens rain or shine and Dan Fuchs will be joining us on dobro. You can also find us Saturday night, 8/13 at 10:30pm at the Honky Tonk BBQ in Pilsen. See you out there!
We’re thrilled to be playing at The Hideout every Friday in August from 6-7:30pm and can’t wait to kick things off this week! Bring a blanket, grab a picnic dinner (prepared by Abra Berens of Stock Cafe at Local Foods and featuring a bottle of Virtue Cider), and stay for some tunes. Find your tickets here: 8/5, 8/12, 8/19, 8/26. Poster by Ryan Duggan.
Join us this Sunday, July 17th at the City Winery Riverwalk. We’ll be playing tunes with Matt Brown from 3-6pm.
Excellent weekend of shows with Andy Malloy and Dan Fuchs. Thanks to everybody who came out to see us play! You can catch us again next week on Thursday, 6/23 at The Charleston Bar in Bucktown with Andy and Matt Brown or Friday, 6/24 at Honky Tonk BBQ in Pilsen with Matt Brown.
Looking forward to A Day in the Country this Sunday, June 12th at the Hideout! Big Sadie plays at 2:40pm. Elise and Collin will be joined by Andy Malloy on banjo and Dan Fuchs on dobro. You can also catch the foursome later that night at Big Star for Dust Up, a summer music and grilling series from our favorite taco and whiskey joint. Great day for music and eats in Chicago!
It’s been a busy spring for Big Sadie, including a great sold out show last weekend at the American Legion Post in Evanston opening for Chris Jones and the Night Drivers. We have some exciting duo, trio, and full-band shows coming up later this spring and summer and hope to see some of you out there! Please visit our Shows page or see below for dates, details, and some additional updates.

Jess has been hard at work on a handful of other projects. She spent the first part of the year on the road with Al Scorch. They’re heading out again soon for a good part of the summer, but we’re excited to have her home for a little while and back on stage with us for a couple dates in May. Jess and Al put on a thoughtful and energetic live show, so be sure to catch them if they’re playing near by (Chicago folks: Al’s record release show is on May 28th at The Hideout). Jess also recently released a lovely set of recordings of the songs she composed and co-wrote for the play “The Revel.” Take a listen here.
We’ve been having a blast playing with Andy Malloy on banjo. He adds a nice dynamic to the group and will be joining us for several upcoming trio and full-band performances. Fiddler and frequent Big Sadie collaborator, Matt Brown, will also be making a few appearances. If you haven’t had the chance to see either of these lineups yet, we’re excited for you to hear these talented gentlemen play!
We’ll be announcing additional dates soon, including a few Thursday evenings at The Charleston Bar in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood, so keep your eyes peeled for an update!

We’re so thankful for all the great music we’ve been able to play and all the wonderful people we’ve met through these Tuesday nights and we hope to have something regular back on the calendar before too long. In the meantime, you can catch us around Chicago throughout the spring and summer.
